How Does It Work?
Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) provides coverage for damages or injuries you may cause to another person or their property while operating a rental vehicle. SLI provides up to US$1,000,000.00 liability protection. The liability coverage provided by the rental car company, can be none at all or as low as the state minimum requirement. SLI coverage may also be considerably more than the coverage provided by your personal or business auto policies.Coverage is valid for rentals in the United States (except rentals that commenced in New York - these are not covered). You are permitted to drive in Canada if the rental was picked up in the United States.
This is a high level summary.
Summary of Your Coverage
The policy provides you with:
- US$1,000,000.00 of supplemental liability coverage
- Coverage for damage or injuries you cause to another person or their property. It is subject to the same conditions and limitations as the rental agreement and any other underlying insurance.
You’re not covered for:
- Physical damage to your rental vehicle (this can be covered by our separate Collision Damage Insurance or the rental company’s equivalent waiver or your personal auto policy);
- Any injury or damage to you, your passengers or their property;
- Damage or injury to you or your passengers caused by an uninsured or underinsured motorist (another driver who doesn’t have sufficient insurance);
- The delivery of goods or the transportation of people for a fee;
- Damage caused by drivers who are not listed on the rental agreement;
- Anything that happens outside of the policy coverage period;
- Claims related to Workers’ Compensation (i.e. an injury to yourself or another authorized driver, or property damage to yourself or another driver, while you’re working);
- The incident that you or a third party is claiming happened before you purchased your policy or it was foreseeable that a claim would occur;
- Injury or damage that occurs due to communicable diseases, assault and battery, and pollution.
How to make a claim

- Provide a detailed description of the event.
For all claims, we require, as a minimum, a detailed description of the event. We may request documents during the claim process such as booking invoices and receipts. If these documents are not provided to us the claim may be rejected or the status changed to “Pending” until we receive the required documents.
Once we have the required documents your claim will be handled by our insurer’s liability claim specialists.
Cancellations, changes and refunds

The insured person listed on the policy can cancel or make changes to this policy via rentalcover.com/account.

(“CoverGenius”) (“we”, “our” or “us”), the licensed surplus lines insurance broker, that has placed the Policy and is placing the sale of the certificate(s) of insurance which may be issued under the Policy to you. - Coverage is non-transferrable.

You agree to receive solely in electronic form from us or Crum & Forster Specialty Insurance Company (“C&F”), as applicable, (1) all related required disclosures that we must deliver in writing to you as part of your insurance purchase; (2) your certificate of insurance and (3) any other documents, correspondences or notices (the “Insurance Documents”) which we or C&F are required to deliver to you in writing which, in each case, you agree shall constitute delivery of any Insurance Document to you in writing when delivered to you electronically unless a particular Insurance Document is required to be delivered by non-electronic means under applicable law.
AGREEMENT AND CONSENT:
By electronically signing this Consent, I confirm, agree and consent that I:
- am the person whose name appears as the main driver on the vehicle rental this insurance applies to and am able to read this electronic Consent and print it on paper or electronically save it for my future access;
- will accept delivery of my certificate of insurance solely in electronic form;
- agree to all the above terms and conditions of this Consent for Electronic Delivery of the Certificate of Insurance, Disclosures and Other Insurance Documents.
SLI may provide coverage that duplicates the renter’s existing insurance coverage. The renter should evaluate their own existing coverage before purchasing SLI.
