Why choose RentalCover?
Even if you have supplemental protection from your credit card your coverage may not be as extensive as RentalCover.com. Credit card coverage is typically** secondary to your personal auto insurance. That means you have to file a claim with your auto insurer before credit card coverage kicks in. If coverage applies under your personal auto policy you may be responsible for your deductible and your rates may be impacted by the claim. The CDW above is primary with no deductible so you won't have to claim on your personal auto policy. (**Ref: valuepenguin.com)
RentalCover.com also covers the following:
Flat tires, cracked windshields, damaged headlamps, lost keys, and towing.
Charges added to your repair bill, including fees for loss of use, processing, relocation and towing.
Coverage for all authorized drivers when they are listed on the rental agreement.
Rentals for more than 30 days.
Plus, RentalCover.com provides protection for rental cars including mini-vans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles.

Your car rental insurance questions answered
How does rental car insurance work in the United States?
In the United States, rental car insurance works through a combination of policies offered by rental companies, personal auto insurance and credit card benefits.
Rental car insurance in the United States may require purchasing additional insurance products, such as Collision Damage Waivers or Supplemental Liability Insurance.
What is Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) in car rental?
A Collision Damage Waiver (or Loss Damage Waiver) is a type of car insurance that reduces your liability for damages to a rental vehicle if it is damaged or stolen.
A CDW is not strictly insurance. It’s a waiver that transfers the risk of financial loss for damages like towing and administrative fees to the rental company.
Rental car companies usually offer a CDW when you pick up your rental. This cover usually comes with a high deductible, which you can reduce with additional upsells.
If you have cover from Rental Cover, you can say ‘no’ to CDWs and upsells at the rental desk. Our policies come with a $0 deductible and go beyond standard rental company CDWs. For example, we offer cover for windshields and all authorized drivers on the rental agreement.
What is Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) in car rental?
Supplemental Liability Insurance is a type of add-on (non-compulsory) cover that increases your protection against third-party claims for bodily injury and property damage.
SLI protects you if you are at fault for an accident and boosts the amount of coverage for damage, such as high-cost accidents, medical expenses or vehicle repairs.
SLI is generally offered by car rental companies. Our policy offers similar coverage.

How much is car rental insurance in the United States?
Does my credit card cover rental car insurance?
Many credit cards do cover rental car insurance. However, relying on your credit card could mean paying thousands of dollars out of your own pocket. For US residents, your credit card likely provides secondary car rental insurance that only kicks in after you make a claim through your personal auto insurance. This may lead to a rate increase.
Credit card coverage often has an additional list of exclusions, including:
Specific damages like damage to windshields or undercarriages.
Damage caused by additional drivers.
Lost keys.
Roadside repair costs.
Long-term rental.
Any fees your rental company may add to your repair bill.
With RentalCover, you have more comprehensive protection for less cost.
Can I change or cancel my coverage if my travel plans change?
What do I do if I plan to travel to multiple countries?
RentalCover extends coverage for any other countries that you visit (for US residents, this excludes Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, and cross-border trips to Mexico). If you're travelling to multiple countries, simply enter the first Country of Travel into the quote form!
Our Supplemental Liability Insurance (for rentals that originate in the US, except New York) is covered for Canada if the vehicle is collected in the US.

How do I make a claim?
We take the stress out of the claim process with concierge-level service. You can make an easy claim online here, in any language.
We’ll ask you to provide relevant documents like a copy of your rental vehicle agreement, a photo of your driver’s licence, a repair invoice and any other evidence we require. We may also have a few follow-up questions to ask you.
For Collision Damage Protection coverage, we strive to get your claim resolved and paid within 3 business days. For your peace of mind, most claims are settled between our team and your rental company. Supplemental Liability Insurance claims can take longer.
