How RentalCover Works

RentalCover offers coverage for your travels in a rental vehicle, allowing you to explore with more peace of mind. We allow you to say ‘no’ to hard sells at the rental desk with high-value coverage that provides true protection.

Our protection

What you’re covered for depends on which of our protection products you have.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Our Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) offers primary coverage, with no deductible for you to pay in the event of a claim. You’re covered for a wide range of incidents in a rental vehicle, including:

  • Collision.
  • Theft.
  • Vandalism.
  • Natural disasters.
  • Items rental companies often exclude from their coverage, like windshields and tyres.
  • Damage-related charges like loss-of-use fees.
  • Incidents that occur when any driver lis.ed on the rental agreement is behind the wheel

If you purchase a CDW from us, you have primary coverage for your rental vehicle. Everything you need to be comprehensively protected in your vehicle is included, with the exception of third-party liability coverage.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

Our Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) provides third-party liability coverage for injuries to other drivers and damage to other people’s property. It can cover medical expenses, costs to repair vehicles or property, and your legal fees.

Third-party liability coverage may be provided by your rental company and automatically included in the price of your rental vehicle. Our SLI works well if you don’t have this coverage from your rental company, or the payout limit on their coverage is low. The coverage limit on our SLI is $1,000,000.

What if I have another form of insurance?

There are a number of different rental car insurance options available in the United States. Here’s how our coverage compares to them.

Rental car company insurance

Our coverage exceeds your rental company’s CDW, as well as more comprehensive policies known as Super Collision Damage Waivers. Our coverage is 50% cheaper than equivalent coverage from rental companies.†

Your rental company may offer third-party liability coverage built into the price of your rental vehicle. If they don’t, or their coverage has low limits, you can purchase our Supplemental Liability Insurance.

Unlike the coverage offered by your rental car company, there’s nothing to pay in the event of a claim when you have RentalCover protection.

Personal auto insurance

Many personal auto insurers in the United States extend coverage on your personal vehicle to your rental vehicle. This means if you’re covered for collisions but not for theft in your personal car, this will also be the case for your rental vehicle.

The same coverage limits will carry over to rental car insurance. These limits may be too low to properly cover certain vehicles.

When you make a claim for a rental vehicle on your personal auto insurance, you can also impact your personal auto premiums. For these reasons, alternatives like RentalCover are worth considering for hire cars.

Credit card coverage

Credit cards offer secondary rental car insurance. Before your credit card coverage will ‘kick in’, you will have to make a claim on your personal auto insurance first.

This can leave you out-of-pocket for long periods of time, as you have to make claims between multiple different parties.

Credit card rental car insurance often has gaps including windshield and tire coverage.
